Avery Powell is a reporter for WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina, covering the Piedmont Triad.
For three years, Avery was a reporter and the morning co-anchor at WCAX in Burlington, Vermont, covering Vermont, New Hampshire and New York.
Avery also worked for three years at WHSV in Harrisonburg, Virginia, enjoying a wide range of experiences. He started as a web producer, then became a reporter and eventually became the New This Morning Reporter/Anchor, allowing him to occasionally fill-in produce and anchor for the morning and noon newscasts. Avery enjoys covering issues that are impactful to the local community, including in-depth reports.
Born-and-raised in Virginia, Avery grew up in the small town of Orange, Virginia, north of Charlottesville. He graduated from George Mason University, outside of Washington, D.C., with a B.A. in Global Affairs (concentrating in Global Governance) and a minor in Electronic Journalism. At GMU, Avery was able to dive into the politics of Washington, D.C., interning with NBC's "Meet the Press" and the political unit of NBC News.
